Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski is in his first MLB season after being called up in June. The 23-year-old rookie sensation has overwhelmed hitters so far with a triple-digit fastball and devastating breaking pitches.
In five starts, Misiorowski has posted a 2.81 ERA and a 4–1 record, totaling 33 strikeouts in 25.2 innings.
On Saturday, MLB announced Misiorowski’s selection to the All-Star Game, replacing Chicago Cubs starter Matthew Boyd, who became ineligible after starting Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees.
Early on Sunday, players around the league voiced frustration at MLB’s decision to include Misiorowski with such a small sample size, arguing that more proven veterans had been passed over.
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner said, “What a joke. That’s [expletive] terrible. I mean, that’s terrible, dude.”
Catcher J.T. Realmuto also said: “Nothing against the Misiorowski kid. But those two (teammates Cristopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez) are deserving.”
Outfielder Nick Castellanos added: “It’s turning into the Savannah Bananas.”
Brewers star Christian Yelich responded before a game against the Washington Nationals: “I understand why some people feel the way they feel, just because it's a small sample. But at the end of the day … people want to be entertained. It's a showcase of some of the best and most exciting players in the game. Miz is definitely that, right?”

The 2025 All-Star Game is set for Tuesday at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Although Yelich wasn’t selected, he has three All-Star appearances and has emerged as a clubhouse leader, defending the rookie’s inclusion amid the controversy.
