The April 7th trade that saw Quinn Priester join the Milwaukee Brewers starting rotation is now complete. Seventh-ranked prospect Yophery Rodriguez, plus the 33rd overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft went to the Red Sox initially, along with a player to be named later.

That player has now been named as the Red Sox have chosen right-handed pitcher John Holobetz as the PTBNL.

Since arriving in Milwaukee from Triple-A Worcester, Quinn Priester has pitched to a 5.79 ERA in five games, four of them being starts. He's helped fill innings in a rotation that desperately needed some after Nestor Cortes went on IL.

Brewers trade John Holobetz to Red Sox

John Holobetz was the Brewers 5th round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Old Dominion. He's a 6'3" right-handed starting pitcher. Holobetz signed for under-slot, with a $322,500 signing bonus. Slot value was $422,900.

Holobetz, 22, started this season with Low-A Carolina and had been pitching quite well. Through five games, Holobetz had a 3.00 ERA with 31 strikeouts and just five walks in 24 IP.

While he wasn't ranked on MLB Pipeline's Top 30 or on Athlon's Top 50 Brewers prospects, Holobetz is a young starter fresh off being drafted that was just starting his minor league journey. He's somewhat of a lottery ticket as a mid-round pick from a mid-major university, but was clearly showing signs that he could be something special and might have pushed for a spot on those lists mid-season.

The Red Sox clearly picked up on that and chose Holobetz from a list of candidates for that PTBNL.
