It’s been a pitching masterclass for the Los Angeles Dodgers so far in the NLCS, as the reigning World Series champions have had incredible success in disarming the Milwaukee Brewers’ offense in the first two games.
The Brewers went just 5-for-58 in the first two games versus the Dodgers, who have leaned on their excellent starting pitching to silence Milwaukee at the plate.
Clayton Kershaw, who isn’t part of the Dodgers’ postseason rotation and is retiring at the end of the season, shared his thoughts on his team’s dominant showing on the hill, knowing that it will take such an effort to go all the way and win a World Series.
Blake Snell was absolutely spectacular in Game 1 on Monday, as he tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing just a hit while striking out 10 Milwaukee hitters. Roki Sasaki and Blake Treinen ran into some trouble after Snell, but the Dodgers ultimately came away with a 2-1 victory.
On Tuesday, Yoshinobu Yamamoto twirled a sterling performance on the mound for Los Angeles. He gave up a home run in the first inning to Jackson Chourio, but he settled in after that, as he pitched a complete game three-hitter with seven strikeouts in a 5-1 LA win.
The Dodgers’ pitching performance in the series earned an honest take from Kershaw.
“Good pitching beats good hitting any day of the week,” the three-time Cy Young Award winner told reporters in the Dodgers locker room following the game (h/t SportsNet LA).
Kershaw surely knows that even though he’s known for struggling when the lights get brighter in the playoffs.
