Brewers get massive Sal Frelick injury update

The Milwaukee Brewers have been without Sal Frelick since mid-July as he’s been dealing with a right shoulder strain for most of the Summer. With the club focused on making a big push in the closing weeks of the regular season, it appears Frelick is finally returning to the major league roster.

Milwaukee announced on X that the 26-year-old right fielder was removed from the 10-day IL. In a corresponding move, the Brewers designated Jonathan Ornelas for assignment to make room on the 26-man roster.

“Roster moves,” the Brewers said in the announcement. “Sal Frelick, OF reinstated from 10-day IL. Jonathan Ornelas, INF/OF designated for assignment.

Although the fourth-year veteran is finally returning from injury, he is not in the Brewers’ lineup for Tuesday’s matchup against the New York Mets. Frelick will have a chance to come off the bench. Milwaukee is utilizing an outfield consisting of Jackson Chourio at left field, Garrett Mitchell at center, and Luis Lara at right.

Before sustaining the injury, Sal Frelick played 87 games at right field in 90 appearances this season. Milwaukee might be working the former first-round pick back into the lineup slowly, as the goal is to ramp him up for the playoffs.

His bat was a bit cold to begin the 2026 campaign. Through 276 at-bats, he recorded 65 hits, four home runs, and 34 RBIs, giving him a .236 batting average. However, he does own a .301 OBP and has stolen six bases so far this year.

Brewers fans can expect to see Frelick back in action soon enough. Although he is not starting on Tuesday, he certainly could make his return at any point in the three-game series against the Mets.
