Brewers get pivotal pitching boost ahead of Cubs series

The Milwaukee Brewers have missed some depth in their bullpen, and before their matchup against the Chicago Cubs, they’re getting some help back, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

“The Brewers have reinstated lefty reliever Jared Koenig from the injured list for tonight’s series opener against the Cubs. He last pitched April 4 before landing on the IL with an elbow injury,” McCalvy wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Koenig is taking the spot of Craig Yoho, who was sent down on Thursday. He spent about a month on a rehab assignment where he had a 3.72 ERA in 11 appearances.

Last season, Koenig had a 2.87 ERA, two saves and 27 holds for the Brewers.

The Brewers were able to get some help back earlier this week as Brandon Woodruff returned from injury. Woodruff had been sidelined for nearly two months because of right shoulder inflammation, and the hope was that he hadn’t lost much of a step when he got back. He didn’t, and he threw six scoreless innings in a 2-1, 10-inning win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Despite the injuries that the Brewers have dealt with here and there this season, they are still at the top of the NL Central with a 49-29 record.

All things have been clicking for the Brewers this season, and they could be a team to look out for as the year continues. With Koenig back in the fold, they should be able to keep winning games, and he takes them to another level when he’s on the field.
