Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio has been a difference maker in the postseason. The 21-year-old star has consistently risen to the occasion, just two years into his career. Over eight postseason games, Chourio has collected 12 hits in 29 at-bats (.414 batting average), including three home runs and nine RBIs.

Chourio played a huge role in helping Milwaukee advance past the Chicago Cubs in the NLDS and will look to carry that momentum into a best-of-seven series against the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers beginning Monday. He will also be managing a right hamstring injury that forced him to exit Game 1 against the Cubs early and left his status for Game 3 in doubt.

Chourio’s right hamstring has bothered him since he was first diagnosed with a strain in late July, which sidelined him for nearly a month. Brewers manager Pat Murphy confirmed Chourio reaggravated the same hamstring in Game 1 against the Cubs.

Fortunately for Milwaukee, Chourio provided a promising update before the Brewers matchup with Los Angeles on Monday. Chourio said that he is feeling “close to 100 percent” regarding the status of his right hamstring (h/t Todd Rosiak of Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). This is an exciting development for Milwaukee because Chourio’s ability to continue succeeding at the top of the lineup will be crucial against the Dodgers elite starting pitchers.

Chourio also provides value outside of his talent in the batter’s box. He grades out as one of the fastest players in the league (93rd percentile sprint speed) and plays great defense in the outfield (3 Outs Above Average). Chourio being close to fully healthy will mean he can continue to display his abilities across all parts of his game.

Chourio has continued to emerge as a huge piece of the present and future for Milwaukee. The front office took a gamble when signing Chourio to an eight-year, $82 million deal before he made his MLB debut, yet now it is viewed as one of the best deals in MLB. Chourio is already an excellent player, yet he is still just 21 years old and will have time to develop and continue improving.
