Brewers Make Decision on Brandon Sproat

Sproat, who was acquired from the New York Mets in the deal that sent now-former Met Freddy Peralta to New York, has had a rough season. After lasting just three innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, the righty is now 3-7 through 21 games (19 starts) this season with a 5.27 ERA, allowing 17 home runs. He has also issued 48 walks across 95.2 innings pitched.

“It’s been a rough year so far," Sproat said following his start on Monday.

This decision on Sproat was almost certainly going to happen, especially with the Brewers expected to get back Kyle Harrison this week, who has been on the injured list since July 9 with an elbow and forearm injury. The aforementioned May is also expected to be inserted into the Milwaukee rotation this week. The Brewers acquired May from the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.

As for Sproat, he had high expectations entering this season. After showing some impressive flashes towards the end of last year for the Mets, the 25-year-old looked like a formidable starting pitcher and a worthy investment for the Brewers.

Sproat will now look to regain his form in Triple-A and hope to help a Brewers team that is looking to clinch its fourth straight NL Central title.
