Brewers Make Roster Move Before Giants Game

The Milwaukee Brewers made a minor roster move Tuesday, outrighting infielder Braden Shewmake to Triple-A Nashville after he cleared waivers.

According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, Shewmake remained with the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The move gives Milwaukee additional infield depth in Triple-A while opening flexibility on its 40-man roster ahead of next week's trade deadline.

Shewmake was designated for assignment on July 24 after the Brewers reinstated David Hamilton from the injured list, ending his brief stint on the 40-man roster following his acquisition from the Houston Astros earlier this month.

The transaction continues a busy stretch for Milwaukee's front office. Earlier this week, the Brewers also moved on from veteran right-hander Lance McCullers Jr., releasing him after designating him for assignment following two relief appearances.

Milwaukee enters Tuesday's game against the San Francisco Giants with a 66-40 record, maintaining a commanding lead in the National League Central despite dropping Monday's series opener 3-0. The organization continues balancing its major league roster while preserving depth throughout the system as the Aug. 3 trade deadline approaches.

Shewmake, a former first-round draft pick, has spent most of the 2026 season serving as organizational infield depth while moving between clubs. By clearing waivers, he can continue playing regularly with the Nashville Sounds instead of leaving the organization.

The Brewers will look to even the series Tuesday behind rookie right-hander Brandon Sproat as they continue their West Coast trip. With roster flexibility becoming increasingly valuable ahead of the deadline, Milwaukee's latest move keeps experienced depth in the organization while preserving options for potential additions.
