The Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff has been outstanding this season, thanks in part to a loaded rotation—but the bullpen has also been excellent, highlighted by the emergence of All-Star closer Trevor Megill.
The 31-year-old right-handed flamethrower has been a dominant relief option for Milwaukee since debuting with the team in 2023. His breakout 2024 campaign as the setup man made Devin Williams expendable, leading to Williams being traded to the New York Yankees ahead of the 2025 season.
Through 49 appearances this year, Megill has continued to thrive, posting a career-low 2.54 ERA with 30 saves and 58 strikeouts over 46 innings.
Ahead of Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team announced that Megill had been placed on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain.
In a corresponding move, the Brewers unexpectedly signed Erick Fedde to a one-year contract.

Fedde previously pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals this season before being designated for assignment. He was picked up by the Atlanta Braves, but continued to struggle and was released on August 24.
Across both stints, Fedde posted a 5.76 ERA, and while it’s unclear whether he’ll join the Brewers’ active staff, the organization will attempt to reclaim the form he showed during the first half of 2024 with the Chicago White Sox.
The bigger concern remains Megill. His impact has been central to Milwaukee’s success, and if he’s unavailable for the postseason, it would be a significant blow to one of the league’s best bullpens.
