The Milwaukee Brewers drew first blood in their 2025 National League Division Series matchup versus the Chicago Cubs, as they came away with a 9-3 victory on Saturday at American Family Field in Wisconsin.
Chicago got on the board first with a home run at the top of the first inning, but the Brewers immediately responded with a juggernaut six-run salvo at the bottom of the same frame.
Despite the big win against the Cubs, the Brewers have one glaring concern on their hands, particularly regarding the health of outfielder Jackson Chourio. After going off for three hits in the first two innings of the contest, Chourio left the game with an apparent injury to his right hamstring.
“Obviously it’s real scary,” Murphy said after the game, per Steve Megargee of the Associated Press. “Having that same hamstring injury to the same leg, we’re hoping that it’s something he can come back from soon. We have no idea when that would be. He’s just getting out of the tube right now. We’ll have somebody look at it. Could be devastating.”
Those were not encouraging words to hear from Murphy, but Chourio seemed more optimistic about his status.
“They haven’t said anything,” Chourio said via an interpreter. “We’re still waiting. But physically I feel good, and I feel in a position where I’m ready to keep going and keep competing.”
The 21-year-old Chourio played 131 games in the 2025 MLB regular season and slashed 270/.308/.463 with 21 home runs and 78 RBIs and a 112 OPS+.
