Following an MRI exam that provided inconclusive results, the Milwaukee Brewers do not know whether star outfielder Jackson Chourio will be available for Monday's Game 2 of the NL Division Series against the Chicago Cubs.
Chourio injured his right hamstring in the second inning of Saturday's 9-3 win in Game 1 as he legged out his third hit of the day, an infield single to third base that gave him three RBIs in two innings. Chourio also had two hits in a six-run first inning — a leadoff double and a two-run single.
The injury was called a strain by the Brewers during the game. After Game 1, manager Pat Murphy called the injury "real scary," while Chourio downplayed the ailment, saying, "I feel good."
The MRI coming back inconclusive feels like a win for the Brewers, as it did not show a tear or a strain. Murphy said before Sunday's workout that Chourio would go through some drills to test the hamstring.
In a video posted by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel beat writer Curt Hogg, Chourio was seen taking a swing and jogging to first base. Although it was not at full speed, there were no concerning signs from that one clip.

There are four options for the Brewers entering Game 2. Chourio is okay to start in the outfield. Chourio starts as the designated hitter, but sits out Game 2 to give him extra rest, possibly returning in Wednesday's Game 3, or Chourio goes on the injured list. The last option would be catastrophic for the Brewers, as removing a player from the roster during a series makes him ineligible for the ensuing series should the team advance. That would mean Chourio couldn't be activated for the NL Championship Series should the Brewers beat the Cubs in the Division Series. He could be back for a potential World Series trip.
The other three choices will depend on how Chourio feels following Sunday's workout and when he reports to American Family Field on Monday. If Chourio doesn't start in the outfield, Isaac Collins is the probable choice to play left field, although Christian Yelich could go in left if Chourio can DH.
Chourio became the first player in MLB postseason history to have three hits in the first two innings of a game.
The Brewers, the NL Central champions who posted the best record in MLB this season, will look to take a 2-0 lead over the Cubs on Monday. Left-hander Aaron Ashby will be an opener for the Brewers, while the Cubs will counter with left-handed starter Shota Imanaga.
