Sunday was chock-full of good news for the Milwaukee Brewers from earning a second straight series sweep to drafting some new, young talent. They are reportedly working on a deal that could eclipse all of that.
MLB insider Francys Romero reported on Sunday night that the Brewers are working on a contract extension for top pitching prospect and 2025 All-Star Jacob Misiorowski. The 23-year-old just made his MLB debut last month.
According to Romero, Milwaukee initially approached the rookie’s camp earlier this year about the subject but no deal was struck. That was a smart move by Misiorowski’s people because he has already increased his future earnings over the last couple months.
After a solid start to the season in Triple-A Nashville, the Brewers had no choice but to eventually call Misiorowski up to the majors. His debut went incredibly well: five scoreless, hitless innings on four walks and five strikeouts against the rival Cardinals.
Since then, he has had even bigger moments such as outdueling stud Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes and striking out a dozen Dodgers batters over six innings of one-run ball. All of this culminated in the fewest career starts ever for a player to be named to the All-Star game.
After beginning his pro career in 2022, it was undeniable that Misiorowski had the talent to dominate MLB hitters some day. The only question was whether he could stick as a starter. Now that he’s proven he can, the Brewers are probably trying to lock him up before his price tag rises even higher.
If the Brewers can finalize an extension, it would be the second young player that the team has signed long-term in less than two years. Milwaukee signed their franchise cornerstone, outfielder Jackson Chourio, to an eight-year deal back in December of 2023 before he’d even made his MLB debut.
The Brewers starting rotation of the future has begun to take shape this season. Locking down Misiorowski as its anchor would help ensure the team continues to have a dominant staff for years to come.
