Brewers showing strong interest in Mets' Luke Weaver

The Milwaukee Brewers are one of several contending teams making a push for New York Mets' high-performing late-inning reliever Luke Weaver, according to The Athletic.

The 32-year-old is an appealing trade candidate who is owed only $2.4 million for the rest of this season and $11 million in 2027, making him a cost-effective option.

The setup man would be a massive upgrade for the Brewers and provide bullpen depth and flexibility alongside Trevor Megill and Abner Uribe. It would create a formidable mix in the Brewers bullpen, which would provide the Brewers with a lethal weapon for October baseball.

He's boasted a 1.88 ERA and 0.84 WHIP across 43 innings pitched and is known for his high-leverage success.

Why Luke Weaver is a compelling trade chip for the Brewers

Weaver's production this season has been elite, including a dominant stretch from May 1 to July 16 in which he pitched 27 scoreless innings. His 14.4% swing-strike rate is the second-best of his career, while his 34% chase rate ranks him among the top arms in the sport.

The right-hander also has postseason experience from each of the last two seasons.

His track record of success, and the .188 OPS he's allowed to opposing hitters this year, make him an attractive option on the trade market. In addition to the Brewers, the Pittsburgh Pirates are also rumored to have interest in acquiring Weaver.

The Brewers' bullpen currently ranks near the top of the league with a 3.68 ERA and 1.29 WHIP on the season. The group would only be further strengthened by adding Weaver to the mix.
