The Milwaukee Brewers learned a season ago the importance of outfield depth. All of Garrett Mitchell, Blake Perkins, and Jackson Chourio spent time on the injured list, Sal Frelick sat out time with a knee issue, and Christian Yelich was an everyday designated hitter during his first season back following a recovery from lumbar spine surgery.

As a result of both Perkins and Mitchell being out simultaneously, early on in the 2025 season Chourio shifted over to center field and thankfully Isaac Collins emerged as a legit rookie of the year candidate as a left fielder. With Collins now gone, the team has added Akil Baddo, but to further solidify their depth they added an intriguing outfielder who has a MiLB Gold Glove award attached to his name.

Milwaukee Brewers sign 2024 MiLB Gold Glove award winning outfielder Dasan Brown

According to the Baseball America transaction wire, and reporting by Brewers Double-A media relations and broadcaster Javik Blake, Dasan Brown has signed a minor league deal with Milwaukee. The former third round pick out of High School in 2019 spent lat season in between Double-A and Triple-A in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, with speed and defense being his calling cards.

Over each of the past five seasons, Brown has stolen over 20 bases, surpassing the 30 stolen base mark each of the past two years. He also was awarded a Gold Glove for his extraordinary defense during the 2024 season.

For Brown, the primary issue preventing him from taking the next step is his inability to consistently get on base and make an even bigger impact on the bases. He had just a .174 batting average last year and across the minor leagues has a career .230 average. Furthermore, he struck out at a 29.5% clip a season ago.

Right now, Brown is a good depth signing for the organization. At worst, the 24 year old has a floor of being a pinch runner/defensive replacement, but it’s also possible that as he continues to mature that he figures things out at the plate and makes a quantum leap.
