Only eight catchers have won World Series MVP, and William Contreras is one of them.
Contreras took home 2026 World Series MVP honors after helping the Milwaukee Brewers win their first World Series title in franchise history. In their five games against the Tampa Bay Rays, the three-time All-Star hit safely in four of them, going 8-for-21 with four RBI.
He also contributed defensively, throwing out four of nine potential base-stealers and calling five great games for the Brewers' pitching staff, which held the Rays to just 12 runs in five games.
Contreras is the first catcher to win World Series MVP since 2015, when Salvador Perez won it for the Kansas City Royals.
It's somewhat surprising that Contreras beat out teammate Jackson Chourio, who led all players with 11 hits. However, Contreras had more of an all-around impact on he series with his work behind the plate.
This is the second World Series ring for the 28-year-old catcher, who also won it all with the 2021 Atlanta Braves.
