The Milwaukee Brewers reached new heights in the month of August, winning 14 consecutive games and setting a new record for the longest winning streak in franchise history.
Along the way, Milwaukee swept the Pittsburgh Pirates from August 11–13, including a dominant 14–0 win that marked their second victory of the season over Paul Skenes.
Pittsburgh’s ace has struggled at American Family Field, losing both starts there in 2025 with a 9.00 ERA and just eight strikeouts.
Skenes allowed four runs on six hits and two walks in just four innings of work—his shortest outing since June—and it marked the worst start of his Cy Young-caliber season. Notably, former first-round draft pick Sal Frelick got things going immediately for Milwaukee, launching a leadoff home run to right field to open the scoring.
Frelick was asked on Monday what it means to have homered off Skenes as part of his personal accomplishments, and he addressed it with a smile.
“Yeah it felt great. Any time I get to hit one over the fence, I don’t care who it is, it’s pretty fun for me,” Frelick said.

Frelick made his debut for the Brewers in 2023 and has since established himself as an elite defender, winning a Gold Glove Award in right field last season.
Over the course of his three-year career, the 25-year-old rising star has been honest about his power numbers, having hit just 14 home runs in the regular season.
However, his overall offensive production has taken a step forward in 2025, posting a .294 batting average and .766 OPS—both career highs—along with nine home runs and 47 RBIs. Frelick is also a threat on the basepaths, swiping 18 stolen bases for the second consecutive season.
Frelick and Milwaukee will look to keep the momentum going into October, entering Monday’s slate with the best record in MLB at 78–45 and the largest division lead at 8.0 games.
