The Milwaukee Brewers added a 17-year-old right-hander on the eve of the National League Division Series, then sent him to the bottom of the system the next day.
On Thursday, the club signed free-agent pitcher Orlando Noguera to a minor league contract, according to his transaction log on MLB.com.
A day later, Noguera was assigned to DSL Brewers Blue, the organization’s Dominican Summer League affiliate.
The listing shows him as a right-handed pitcher who bats and throws right, age 17, listed at 170 pounds. No bonus, birthplace, or scouting grades have been released with the move.
The timing puts a long-term signing next to a short-term assignment.
The Brewers open the best-of-five NLDS against the San Diego Padres on Saturday, October 3, at American Family Field, with first pitch at 8:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
Milwaukee is the No. 1 seed after a 103-59 season and a fourth straight NL Central title.
San Diego reached the series by sweeping the Cubs in the Wild Card round and allowing one run in those two games. Game 2 is Sunday in Milwaukee; the series then shifts to Petco Park for Game 3 on October 6.
None of that schedule involves Noguera. A player assigned to the DSL is years from a postseason roster, and the Dominican Summer League season is already over.
The assignment simply places him in the Brewers’ entry-level complex, the same pipeline the club has used for most of its recent international class.
That class was the louder story in January, when the 2026 international signing period opened.
Milwaukee, working with a bonus pool of about $7.36 million, agreed to deals with three of MLB Pipeline’s top 50 prospects: shortstops Ricki Moneys, Diego Frontado, and José Rodríguez, each for at least $1.2 million. Pitchers were scarce at the top of that market. Noguera’s October deal is a late addition in a window that runs from January 15 to December 15, not a headline bonus.
The Brewers have leaned on that academy path before. Jackson Chourio, signed internationally in 2021, is already a regular. Jesús Made and Luis Peña arrived in the 2024 class.
On the mound, Freddy Peralta’s early professional time came in the Dominican Summer League in another organization, and Abner Uribe came through Milwaukee’s complex. Those names are the ceiling the club points to, not a forecast for a pitcher who has yet to throw a professional inning.
For now the public record is two lines. Signed October 1. Assigned to DSL Brewers Blue on October 2. While Jacob Misiorowski, who posted a 1.80 ERA this season, is lined up to start Game 1 against San Diego, Noguera’s first job is to report, get into a throwing program, and wait for the 2027 DSL season.
