In about six weeks time, Milwaukee Brewers position players will report to spring training in preparation for the upcoming season. This spring will not be a typical ramp up however, as numerous players will be competing in the World Baseball Classic. Among those on a roster, is infielder Tyler Black.
According to numerous reports, Black was announced as a member of Team Canada’s 2026 WBC roster . This news came at the same time that Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman revealed that due to personal reasons he would not participating this time around.
Freeman’s departure leaves Bo Naylor as the favorite to play first base, which is where Black plays. Despite not having a clear path to playing time, Black’s speed makes him a candidate to be used in specific situations, such as a pinch runner.
Regardless of role or WBC performance, Black is entering a pivotal year with the Brewers. He hasn’t carved out a meaningful role at the big league level and 2026 is all but certainly the final year that he can be optioned to and from the minor leagues.
