Recently, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper made startling comments about the 2027 MLB season. Essentially, he believes there won’t be a season because MLB may lock out during collective bargaining negotiations.
The sentiment caught many by surprise, but it resonated with Anthony Rizzo and David Ross, per Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered. They both said they understood where he was coming from, but not in the way most would think.
While talking to fans on social media, Harper said, “It will be this year,” in response to a fan who said the offseason runs from March to October. Another fan chimed in to say that Harper “likes the offseason more than the season atp”
Harper then replied, “This is true.”
That met Rizzo and Ross where they were, since they expressed similar enjoyment of the offseason.
“The offseason is nice after a 162-game grind,” Ross said.
“The offseason is way better than the season, are you kidding me?” Rizzo said.
“You get that downtime that is so important to the mental and physical health of the players,” Ross said.
Ultimately, Rizzo agreed wholeheartedly with Harper, but added that the regular season is enjoyable for the love of the game.
“The season is now is the greatest thing ever,” Rizzo said. “I love playing baseball. Love it. There’s nothing I would have rather done during the year.”

Rizzo and Ross were two of the most popular players from the 2016 Chicago Cubs that won the World Series.
The 2027 season hinges on whether the MLB Players Association (MLBPA) and the owners can agree on the salary cap. The owners are pushing for a salary floor, while the MLBPA opposes a cap.
If they don’t reach a deal by Spring Training, the season could be in jeopardy.
