Buy or Sell: Atlanta Braves Free Agents

As I wrote earlier this offseason, the Braves have a ton of pending free agents.

A few of these decisions are relatively cut and dried, but in most cases you could make an argument to bring the guy back if the money makes sense. Here’s the full list, with thoughts on whether the Braves should entertain a reunion.

Braves 2027 Free Agents

Buy Or Sell

Ha-Seong Kim

No need to spend much time here. Kim will go down as one of the worst free agent signings in franchise history, which is pretty remarkable considering it was only a one-year deal. The Braves will have zero interest in a return.

Buy or Sell: Sell

Raisel Iglesias

Iglesias is very much a toss-up. He was brilliant over the first month of the season, posting a 1.32 ERA through June and earning All-Star honors for the first time in his career.

The last three months were a different story. The long ball became an issue, as it was for much of 2025, and he posted a 3.58 ERA the rest of the way. He still finished with a more than respectable 2.55 ERA, and plenty of teams around the league will be interested. But at 37, it would be understandable if the Braves felt it was time to move on.

They already have Robert Suarez, who has plenty of experience closing at a high level. He could slide right into the ninth-inning role, but the Braves would still need to bring in another high-leverage arm.

Buy or Sell: Sell

Tyler Mahle

Mahle was one of the best stories of the Braves’ 2026 campaign. Acquired for next to nothing at the trade deadline, he posted a 1.99 ERA over his final nine regular season starts, and if there were any questions about whether it was a fluke, he put them to bed with two tremendous postseason outings against the Phillies and Dodgers.

Given all the questions surrounding the rotation this offseason, keeping Mahle has to be near the top of the to-do list. But we know Alex Anthopoulos — he doesn’t like to get into bidding wars for starting pitching in free agency.

There will surely be clubs that watched Mahle over the final few months and are ready to open the checkbook. Will the Braves match those offers? I have my doubts.

Buy or Sell: Sell

Martin Perez

Perez is another great storyline from this year. He inked a minor-league deal last offseason and was even designated for assignment early on. Thankfully, nobody picked him up, or Atlanta might not have made the playoffs at all. That’s how big an impact he had from start to finish, posting a 3.04 ERA over 142 innings.

Perez isn’t going to wow anybody with his stuff and will be 36 next season. It’s unlikely many teams offer him a multiyear deal, which is right up the Braves’ alley. It feels more likely that Perez is back in a Braves uniform next season than Mahle — probably not what most fans want to hear.

Buy or Sell: Buy

Mauricio Dubon

Dubon should be the free agent the Braves are most interested in retaining. The team has no answers at shortstop, and the other options set to hit the open market are underwhelming. They could try to find a better fit via trade, but they’ve shown no willingness in the past to meet the high price tags teams demand at such a premium position.

Dubon was excellent defensively at short and provided more than enough offense. He was also a tremendous clubhouse presence with a lot of winning experience. The Braves have some intriguing shortstop prospects coming up who could be ready in a couple of years, so having Dubon bridge the gap makes way too much sense.

Buy or Sell: Buy

Lane Thomas

My initial read on Thomas is that he’s an obvious sell candidate. After coming over at the deadline, he never got going offensively and then spent a month on the IL with an intercostal strain. The Braves should be looking to upgrade in left field.

But one aspect of this club that’s been overlooked the last few seasons is the depth. The Braves’ bench has been putrid. Some of that isn’t on Anthopoulos; losing Jurickson Profar for the entire season was unexpected. That excuse can’t be used again, though. The Braves have to do a better job ensuring they have quality depth, and Thomas is a fine option on a cheap one-year deal.

Buy or Sell: Buy

Brent Suter

Mahle caught all the headlines because of his post-deadline performance, but Suter was an incredible addition too, posting a 1.63 ERA over 27.2 innings with the Braves. On a one-year deal, Atlanta should welcome him back with open arms.
