Byron Buxton reiterates desire to remain with Twins for life

Outfielder and designated hitter Byron Buxton is the longest active member on the Minnesota Twins (51-55). The second overall pick of the 2012 MLB Draft has spent his entire career in the Twin Cities and is in his 11th big-league season.

There have been ups and downs throughout his tenure as a Twin, which has included many injuries. Thus far in 2025, we've seen the best out of a healthy Buxton, but with Minnesota five games out of a wild-card spot, trade rumors have arisen.

Buxton was asked about the potential of being traded at the All-Star game in Atlanta, which he quickly shut down. On Monday, he reaffirmed that desire not to leave Minnesota in a one-on-one interview with Chris Rose of Jomboy Media.

"For me, just letting, I guess, the world know this is where I want to be, this is where my family wants to be. This is home; there's nowhere else where I can put in my heart, and my family can put in their heart and say it's home," Buxton said. "The loyalty that not just the organization but the front office shows is just incredible. Like I said, they had my back and support throughout my tough years of not being on the field. So, for me, it's giving back to Minnesota and the fans to have these healthy years, healthy couple of months that I've had now, to hopefully continue."

As Buxton referred to in the interview, he is having one of the healthiest and most productive seasons of his career.

The 31-year-old is batting .282 with 23 home runs and 59 RBI through 85 games in 2025. He has already reached a career high in RBI and is just five homers shy of tying his previous best of 28 long balls during the 2022 campaign.

There has never been any doubt about Buxton's talent and abilities; it's just whether or not he's able to stay on the field. Buxton has played in 100 or more games in only two of his 11 MLB seasons, though he is pacing to surpass the mark for the third time in 2025.

Given his injury history, the Twins have managed Buxton's reps with time in the outfield and as a designated hitter, which appears to be working well.

That said, Buxton is out right now with a rib injury suffered in Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Washington Nationals; however, he received good news on a recent MRI and is considered day-to-day.

Twins fans and the baseball community in general are glad to see the two-time All-Star thriving and will hope he makes a return to action in the coming days.
