The St. Louis Cardinals are looking to take the third game of a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the series, Nolan Arenado got an ovation from the home crowd while playing for the Diamondbacks.
As they prepare for game three of the series, the Cardinals have made some changes to the front office, according to a post from the team on X, formerly Twitter.
“The Cardinals announced the following promotions to the organization’s executive leadership team today: Bill DeWitt III has been named CEO of the Cardinals. Anuk Karunaratne has been named President of Business Operations. Alongside these promotions, Bill DeWitt Jr. will continue in his role as Chairman and Principal Owner,” the post read.
Bill DeWitt III joined the Cardinals organization in 1996, when his father, Bill DeWitt Jr., joined with Stephen F. Brauer to purchase the Cardinals from Anheuser-Busch. He was overseeing the financial, operations, and baseball operations of the club. He was initially the head of marketing for the club and would become the senior vice president of business development. He also led the design and construction of the new Busch Stadium in 2006.
DeWitt then moved to oversee the business operations of the Cardinals, which included sales, marketing, finance, accounting, and game-day production.
Meanwhile, Anuk Karunaratne was the Vice President of Business Operations and has been promoted to the president role, the role previously held by DeWitt III. He joined the Cardinals in 2024 after spending time with the Toronto Blue Jays prior to that.
On the field, the Cardinals are 42-35 on the season, which places them in second place in the NL Central. They are also in position to snag one of the NL Wild Card spots.
