The St. Louis Cardinals had a significant scare on Wednesday.

It was a rollercoaster of a day that started with Masyn Winn hitting a walk-off infield single to take down the New York Mets in 11 innings. The scare came afterward, though. Winn was involved in a single-car accident, but fortunately came away without any serious injury. The team shared a statement after the car accident on Wednesday.

"Following [Wednesday's] game, Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Interstate 64/Highway 40 due to wet pavement," the statement read. "Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended to by local police and Cardinals security and medical staff. He was examined at a nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries. We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn [yesterday]."

Fortunately, Winn came away okay. He confirmed the fact on Instagram on Thursday. A screenshot of the post can be seen below, courtesy to Brenden Schaeffer of MLB.com.

"For everone wondering ... I'm feeling great! Car is a little banged up but nothing can't be replaced! Big thanks to our security team and first responders for taking care of me! See y'all on the field soon!

As of writing, the team hasn't announced whether Winn will need a stint on the Injured List after the car accident. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is the fact that he came out of the accident okay. Missed time on the field doesn't matter when it comes to something this serious. So, fortunately, Winn is alright and the worst part is over.

The Cardinals have gotten off to hot start this season and went 4-2 across their first six games of the season. Winn played a big role in that, including the walk-off winner on Wednesday. At the end of the day, the 2026 Cardinals are going to rely very heavily on Winn. The 24-year-old is arguably the best defensive shortstop in baseball and is one of the team's clear core pieces along with JJ Wetherholt and Alec Burleson, among others.

When something like this pops up, it makes baseball not important. Fortunately, Winn is alright, though, and he announced that himself. The next step is going to be determining how much time he will miss, if any, with him acknowledging that he's alright.
