The St. Louis Cardinals were defeated 4-3 and 10-2 by the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday in a doubleheader. To make matters worse, relief pitcher Ryne Stanek suffered an injury scare during one of the games. Stanek suffered a rolled right ankle and is expected to miss a couple of days. He is day to day according to MLB.com, so the Cardinals are seemingly hopeful that he can avoid a stint on the injured list.
Stanek, 34, has pitched to a 4.93 ERA across 39 appearances this season. His ERA is far from ideal, but the right-handed hurler is a veteran. He is still capable of making a significant impact despite his underperformance. The Cardinals are hopeful that Stanek can return sooner than later.
Updates on Ryne Stanek’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.
The Cardinals-Brewers doubleheader did not go according to plan for St. Louis. It’s technically a rare five-game series because of the doubleheader, as the teams also played on Monday and will play again on Wednesday and Thursday. The Brewers lead the series 3-0 at the moment, and the Cardinals are hoping to bounce back as soon as possible against their National League Central rival.
The Cardinals are still expecting to compete this year. St. Louis now trails Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central by 10.5 games, as the Cardinals are in third place at the moment. They are only 2.0 games back of an NL Wild Card spot, though. Making a postseason push remains quite realistic.
