The St. Louis Cardinals are likely to be without their Gold Glove-winning shortstop on Saturday. Masyn Winn expects to be out of the lineup on Saturday. The 24-year-old shortstop is dealing with tightness in his hip.
Masyn Winn felt some tightness in his hip, said it began to develop when he went into the cage Tuesday to hit his way out of his season-opening slump.
He expects to be out of the lineup Saturday.

Winn first felt the tightness when working in the batting cage on Tuesday. Despite that, Winn remained in the lineup, delivering a walk-off hit on Wednesday.
Winn was removed for a pinch hitter in Friday’s loss, which was an early indication something was wrong with the infielder.
Despite a walk-off hit, it has been a rough week for the young shortstop. Following his winning hit Wednesday, Winn was involved in a minor car accident that thankfully produced no injuries. Whether or not the accident is playing a role in his continued hip tightness is unknown.
Winn is having a slow start the season. After some debate prior to Opening Day, he has batted cleanup in all but one game. Once he returns to the lineup, it will be interesting to see where he is placed.
We had wondered if the team’s depth may be tested entering this season with the Detroit Tigers. With Winn out of the lineup for Saturday, Jose Fermin or Thomas Saggese will take his spot at shortstop. With the Tigers pitching a righty (Jack Flaherty), JJ Wetherholt will likely return to the lead-off spot, the spot Winn had on Friday. Winn’s replacement will likely bat towards the bottom of the order.
Should Winn go to the injured list, the organization will need to call up someone from the Memphis Redbirds to take the roster spot. Who that could be is unknown. Hopefully, Winn is only out of action for a few days. Furthermore, when he returns, hopefully is bat gets going.
