Cardinals vs Athletics Game 2 has a little “who’s actually hotter right now?” energy to it. St. Louis rolled into Sacramento and grabbed Game 1 behind another strong offensive night, while the Athletics are trying to stop this series from turning into a momentum swing before the weekend even arrives.

Wednesday night also brings a pretty intriguing pitching matchup. J.T. Ginn is coming off the best start of his season, while Matthew Liberatore has quietly stabilized things for the Cardinals’ rotation lately.

St. Louis enters after a 6-4 Game 1 win, while the Athletics are looking to avoid dropping back under .500.

Cardinals vs. Athletics Game 2: Starting Pitchers

The Athletics hand the ball to J.T. Ginn, and frankly, he’s starting to look much more comfortable at this level.

Ginn enters at 1-1 with a 3.62 ERA across 37.1 innings, and his last outing against Philadelphia was flat-out dominant, eight innings, one run, eight strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .203 against him this season, and when his command is sharp, he generates weak contact consistently.

The Cardinals counter with Matthew Liberatore, who’s 2-1 with a 4.07 ERA through eight starts. He’s bounced back after a rough outing against Seattle, allowing just three earned runs combined across his last two starts against the Dodgers and Padres. If the fastball command holds up early, he can settle into games quickly.
