The Chicago Cubs bullpen was a disaster on Saturday, allowing eight runs to the Toronto Blue Jays in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Blue Jays went on to beat the Cubs 8-6 in front of 40,706 fans at Wrigley Field.

Following the game, Chicago made a trade for relief help. Per Ari Alexander of 7 News, the Cubs traded with the Houston Astros for right-handed reliever Jayden Murray. Chicago is sending Double-A first baseman Cameron Sisneros to the Astros.

“Sources: The Astros are trading RHP Jayden Murray to the Cubs, Alexander posted on X. “Double-A 1B Cameron Sisneros has been traded to the Astros.”

Murray has a 7.43 ERA this season with eight strikeouts in eight game appearances and 13.1 innings pitched. His first MLB season was in 2025 with the Astros.

Murray last pitched for Houston on Monday. He gave up one home run, two runs, and three hits while striking out three batters. He gave up a total of five earned runs in his previous two performances (4.1 innings pitched).

The Cubs desperately need help in the bullpen. On Saturday, Trent Thornton allowed three earned runs. Caleb Thielbar gave up two earned runs. Tight-handed reliever Jacob Webb gave up two singles before allowing Toronto third baseman Kazuma Okamoto to hit a three-run blast to put the Blue Jays up 8-5 in the eighth inning.

Following the game, Webb said he was frustrated by mistakes he had made in recent outings.

“I didn’t (expletive) execute today, plain and simple,” Webb said, via Jesse Rogers of ESPN. “The last few outings, I’ve made mistake after mistake and it’s pretty (expletive) frustrating. I’m not gonna lie.”

Murray will come to Chicago after having his struggles with the Astros, but maybe a change of scenery can help the 29-year-old pitcher on a team that needs to make a turnaround this summer to make the postseason.
