Chicago White Sox GM mispeaks about trade acquisition

Though the Chicago White Sox have done well to revamp their roster this offseason, they may have made a blunder with general manager Chris Getz’s comments regarding newly acquired infielder Luisangel Acuna. Acuna was one of the players acquired in the trade that sent Luis Robert Jr. to the New York Mets.

More News: Chicago White Sox GM Chris Getz feels good about his roster

According to Sam Phalen on X/Twitter, Getz has mislabeled Acuna as a switch-hitter in multiple interviews, when the 23-year-old infielder strictly bats right-handed.

Chris Getz’s not knowing what handedness his players are signals a bigger problem

The fact that Getz didn’t know, or intentionally misspoke, signals a wider problem regarding the White Sox front office, as it begs the question: are they properly evaluating players?

Acuna is an infielder by trade, with his primary position being shortstop. But with Colson Montgomery set to be the everyday shortstop and Chase Meidroth occupying second, Acuna likely will get reps out in center field. Acuna could struggle playing center for the White Sox, as he has just 43 career games between the big leagues and minor leagues in center.

Hopefully, the players brought back in the return for Robert Jr. don’t pan out. However, if they don’t, it might be time to question Getz’s ability to continue as the general manager for the rebuild, as the White Sox need to find hidden talent to compete.
