The start of Major League Baseball's Spring Training is just around the corner. Pitchers and catchers are set to report in mid-February to begin training camp. There are low expectations for the 2025 Chicago White Sox in terms of wins and losses, with projections suggesting they will suffer over 100 losses. The team is again in the midst of a rebuild and is focused on the future.
Much of the 2025 season will revolve around developing minor league prospects at higher levels of the minor leagues and in the majors. Baseball Prospectus has released its top 101 prospect rankings, and the White Sox are well represented with seven prospects on the list, one of the highest totals in professional baseball.
Some of these names have been familiar for a couple of years, while many are recent additions through the draft and trades, including notable acquisitions from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Garrett Crochet.
The White Sox's top two prospects are left-handed pitchers, ranked as the best lefties in Major League Baseball. They are 2022 first-round pick Noah Schultz and 2024 first-round pick Hegan Smith, who are ranked 30th and 36th, respectively.
Colson Montgomery, the 2021 first-round pick, ranks 43rd despite a lackluster 2024 season. Kyle Teel, the catcher acquired in the Crochet trade, is just behind Montgomery at 45, while another catching prospect obtained in a trade two years ago, Edgar Quero, slots in at 76th.
Rounding out the seven prospects is Grant Taylor, who is making his debut in the top 100 rankings. Taylor was selected in the second round of the 2023 draft out of LSU. Additionally, Braden Montgomery, the Red Sox's first-round pick from the 2024 draft, is listed at 99 despite not having played a minor league game due to injury.

While the major league roster may not present much excitement for the 2025 season, particularly regarding standings, there is hope for the future on the South Side, thanks to some promising minor league talent. This group of seven players is one to watch over the next six months.
