At 42-53, the Atlanta Braves’ streak of seven consecutive postseason appearances appears to be coming to an end, which could lead to sweeping changes throughout the organization.
On the players side of things, several critical decisions must be made. How do the Braves feel about Ozzie Albies and Michael Harris II as full-time starters moving forward? At least one of them could replaced before the start of the 2026 campaign. Additionally, a slew of teams will be calling about trading for Sean Murphy and Drake Baldwin. With so many other glaring holes on the roster, having two All-Star caliber catchers is no longer a luxury the Braves can really afford.
As far as coaching personnel, we could see an entirely new group next year as well. Brian Snitker isn’t expected to be fired in-season, but most believe he’ll decide to step down after 50 years in the coaching ranks, which means the Braves will be looking for a new manager for the first time since 2016.
A plethora of familiar names have been thrown around by fans, most notably Mark DeRosa and David Ross. However, what about one that had a little more success in a Braves uniform than those two — Hall of Fame third baseman Chipper Jones? The Atlanta legend addressed the possibility recently in an interview with 680 The Fan.
“The lure of Atlanta Braves baseball, wearing the uniform, and being around the fellas is real — I dig it,” Jones said “But ultimately, I made promises when I retired that I would be a better dad and husband … I’m content with life away from baseball for now.”
Jones also said his dream job would be an assistant to the general manager.
Chipper is a Brave through and through. He took less money throughout his career to stay in Atlanta and has spent time as a hitting consultant in the past. There will probably never be a time where he is not around the organization, and it’s really cool to see that he wants to be even more involved in the future. It doesn’t sound like he’s all that interested in managing, at least not right now, but we’ll see if Alex Anthopoulos eventually takes him up on his offer and assigns him a role in the front office, where he could be working alongside Brian Snitker in the future.
