Chris Sale set to begin rehab assignment

Fresh off one of their best series of the season, the Braves announced some more good news on Tuesday morning, as Chris Sale is set to begin his rehab assignment with AAA Gwinnett.

Sale might have been on his way to another NL Cy Young award had he not suffered a fractured rib cage on June 18th against the Mets in a contest where he finished just one out shy of a complete game shutout. He was pitching as well as he ever had up to that point, boasting a 1.23 ERA over his last 10 starts and averaging nearly nine strikeouts per start.

It was vintage Chris Sale, and his injury really seemed to take the rest of the life out of the Braves clubhouse. Atlanta’s postseason hopes are now a distant memory, but getting him and Ronald Acuña Jr. back for the last month or so at least gives the fans a reason to tune in every night.
