Christian Walker Showing Early Turnaround for Astros in 2026

Yes, it is early, but through his first six games of 2026, Walker has already made an impact. The impact they expected him to have from the beginning.

There have to be some deep breaths of relief coming out of management right now. The Astros’ lineup is built around run creation, and having Walker finally produce matters.

Houston didn’t overreact to Walker’s down year in 2025; they believed in the 35-year-old’s ability to rebound and come back to form. His career has shown consistent power and run-producing ability; he just needed to find that in an Astros uniform.

What’s Different Right Now

Walker is driving runs in consistently. He has hit five doubles in the first six games, and just in general, he is getting on base. The change in his batting is noticeable.

Of course, it is early and this is a very small sample size, but Walker is making good contact and increasing his confidence

In talking with Chandler Rome of The Athletic, Walker addressed his work over during spring training, “I put a lot of work this spring training on my bat path staying higher and more direct … trying to stay higher with my hands and trying to stay more direct,” Walker said. “I know my barrel is going to drop, it’s going to come down. Having that better loft and move to be on the other side of the spectrum, it feels like I’m being very direct. And, if you watch the video, it’s actually on-plane.”

Houston may be just six games in, but Walker is looking like he has things turned around and could be ready for a standout season, which is just what the Astros need.
