The Cincinnati Reds and right-handed pitcher Lucas Sims have agreed to a one-year, $2.85 million contract according to multiple reports. The deal means the Reds and Sims will avoid arbitration.
Players with three or more years of service time are eligible for arbitration. This is Sims' final year of arbitration. He will be a free agent after the season.
Sims went to arbitration with the Reds in 2022 and lost that case.
Sims, 29, is one of the most reliable relief pitchers the Reds have. In 61 innings, across 67 appearances, Sims kept hitters at bay with a 3.10 ERA. He managed 72 strikeouts and three saves in 2023.
He bounced back in 2023 after injuries robbed him of all but six appearances in 2022. Sims was hoped for and he delivered.
