One of the best managers in league history added to his illustrious resume earlier today. Cincinnati Reds Manager Terry Francona notched his 2,000th career win with a 4-2 win at home against the Colorado Rockies. He became the 13th manager in league history to accomplish this feat. That illustrious list includes Connie Mack, Joe Torre, and Bobby Cox. Francona joined Bruce Bochy as the only other active manager with 2,000 career wins. How many wins will the all-time skipper end his career with?

Terry Francona’s Managerial History

Francona began his managerial career in 1997 with the Philadelphia Phillies. He remained with the ballclub until 2000. The best stint of his career as a manager began with the Boston Red Sox in 2004. It resulted in two World Series wins(2004, 2007).

After a successful stint in Boston, Francona came over to the Cleveland Indians/Guardians in 2013. He spent 11 years in Cleveland, including a 2016 World Series loss. The Indians blew a 3-1 series lead to help the Cubs win their first championship since 1908. The skipper shockingly returned to the dugout this season with the Cincinnati Reds. Once he left Cleveland, many believed his career was finished.

Final Thoughts

It has been a strong first half of the season for the Cincinnati Reds. They are 50-47 at the MLB All-Star break. Francona is great at his job and will know what buttons to push to get the most out of his players. Today’s achievement was another reason why he will get a call from Cooperstown once his career comes to a close.
