The Cincinnati Reds start a crucial series against the New York Mets tonight. The Reds are coming off a series loss to the Toronto Blue Jays to start the week. They were outscored 29-23 in the series. Ahead of tonight’s game, the Reds activated catcher Tyler Stephenson from the injured list. The Reds optioned catcher Will Banfield to Triple-A Louisville. They also sent left-handed pitcher Joe La Sorsa outright to Louisville.

Stephenson has been out since August 15th, dealing with a thumb injury. In 72 games this season, he’s hitting .226 with a .705 OPS. He has 15 doubles, nine home runs, 36 RBI, 32 runs scored, and 32 walks. Stephenson played in two games at Louisville during his rehab, hitting .400 with a 1.000 OPS. He had a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Banfield played in seven games with the Reds, hitting .100 with a .200 OPS. In 73 games at Triple-A Louisville this season, he’s hit .220 with a .581 OPS. He has 13 doubles, two home runs, 23 RBI, 22 runs scored, and 17 walks.
La Sorsa, in five games for the Reds this season, is 0-1. He posts a 10.80 ERA, a 2.25 WHIP, and two strikeouts in 6.2 innings. In 45 games at Louisville, he is 3-2 with a 2.82 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts in 44.2 innings.
