Cleveland Guardians Acquire Two-Time Gold Glove Winner

The Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants made a surprising trade today as the Guardians are acquiring two-time Gold Glove catcher Patrick Bailey from the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are acquiring the 29th overall pick in this summer’s MLB Draft along with left-handed pitcher Matt Wilkinson. The Guardians are optioning catcher Bo Naylor to Triple-A Columbus.

Patrick Bailey

Bailey in 30 games this season is hitting .146 with a .396 OPS. He has a home run, five RBI, five runs scored, and two stolen bases. The Guardians are acquiring him for his glove though. In 30 games catching this season, he has 228 putouts, 11 assists, and three errors for a .988 fielding percentage. He has a career .992 fielding percentage. Bailey won Gold Glove awards in 2024 and 2025. 

Matt Wilkinson

Wilkinson in six starts at Double-A Akron this season is 1-2 with a 1.59 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and 36 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. He also pitched at the World Baseball Classic for Canada. In his two appearances, he didn’t allow a run, or a hit. He walked two and struck out four. 

Bo Naylor 

Baylor in 28 games was hitting .143 with a .438 OPS. He had two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs scored. Defensively he had a .995 fielding percentage with 205 putouts, nine assists, and one error.
