Cody Bellinger Re-Signs with the Yankees

Bellinger, 30, enjoyed a remarkable resurgent season in 2025 after his trade to New York in December 2024. The former MVP, who was acquired from the Chicago Cubs along with cash considerations for right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet. He provided the Yankees with an impactful left-handed bat and defensive versatility.

Bellinger ultimately delivered on his promise by hitting 29 home runs, driving in 98 RBIs, and posting a .272 batting average with an .814 OPS across 152 games. He primarily played left field and center field. This strong performance, which was his best since his 2019 MVP season, immediately paid dividends for the Yankees and led to him opting out of his contract to re-enter free agency seeking a long-term deal. The Yankees now give him that long term deal.
