'Come Out Of It And Hit' – Dave Roberts Drops Blunt Take On Kyle Tucker’s Offense

Kyle Tucker was the premier free agent of the past offseason but remained unsigned for most of the winter. Eventually, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed him to a four-year $240 million deal, making him the highest-paid player in the MLB. Tucker was expected to make a big impact on the vaunted Dodgers lineup. Yet things have not quite worked out that way.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes Kyle Tucker is performing well below his level because he is being overzealous at the plate. Roberts does not believe the pressure of the contract is weighing on the four-time All-Star. He feels Tucker is struggling because he is not mentally relaxed at the plate right now.

“I do feel he’s trying to do too much,” Roberts said, as per Dodgers Nation. “I’d like to think it’s not pressure-based, but the reality is that he’s scuffling right now. I definitely expect him to come out of it and hit, get on base, and do what he’s done for many years. I just wanted to change it up and felt like it was time.”

Kyle Tucker’s struggles become rather glaring as almost the entire Dodgers lineup is off to a hot start. Nevertheless, there is plenty of time left in the season to completely turn it around.

Kyle Tucker Still Trying To Find His Swing Amid Ongoing Slump

Kyle Tucker responded to Dave Roberts’ comments about the slow start to his tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The left-handed slugger considers his issues to be mechanical rather than mental.

“I think it’s more just me trying to find my swing and trying to find the consistency in it more than anything,” Kyle Tucker said.

“I have had some good swings. Sometimes, I just get a hit because I just happened to get a hit. But just trying to find the consistency with my swing and do it day in, day out.”

Kyle Tucker has 11 plate appearances over 25 games for the Dodgers thus far. He is currently slashing .237/.324/.361 with three home runs, 13 RBIs, and a 98 OPS+.
