The Braves don’t have many players set to test free agency, with only three expected to hit the open market — all of whom have a legitimate case to be brought back.
Each of those three recently made Jim Bowden’s list of the top 50 free agents in this year’s class.
28. Raisel Iglesias
Contract Prediction: 2 years, $24 million
Iglesias had one of the most peculiar seasons I can remember for a Braves closer. For the first two months, he was barbecue chicken — everyone was eating when he came trotting out from the bullpen. But around the middle of June, things started to click in a way they only do for the best closers in the game, as he posted a 1.25 ERA over his final 45 appearances.
That kind of inconsistency, combined with his age — he’ll be 36 next season — will deter some teams, but his overall track record in Atlanta should still make him an appealing option for any contender. Two years and $24 million seems like a fair prediction.
31. Ha-Seong Kim
Contract Prediction: 3 years, $39 million
It feels inevitable that Ha-Seong Kim will opt out of his $16 million player option for next season, and this kind of projection explains why. With so few shortstops available in free agency, Kim will be highly coveted, especially by smaller-market teams that can’t afford to bid on the top-tier options.
Even after an injury-riddled 2025 campaign, someone will hand him a multi-year deal, and a three-year, $39 million contract feels about right. Of course, the bidding could climb higher if desperation sets in for a few clubs. The Braves are one of those teams desperate for a shortstop, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they’re willing to go a little above that number if the situation calls for it.
40. Marcell Ozuna
Contract Prediction: 1 year, $12 million
After a two-season stretch in which Marcell Ozuna blasted 79 homers, he came back to earth this year, hitting .232 with 21 home runs and a .756 OPS. Not a terrible line, but he’ll be 35 next season, and there are legitimate concerns about the hip tear he dealt with throughout the year.
Ozuna will land somewhere and could wind up being a massive bargain for whichever team signs him, but it’s hard to imagine he’ll get more than a one-year deal this offseason.
