Corbin Carroll records fifth-fastest inside-the-park home run in Statcast Era
Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

Corbin Carroll’s rise in August continued with another impressive feat. Leading off the game for the Diamondbacks against Gavin Stone and the Los Angeles Dodgers, he lifted a fly ball off the center field wall and circled the bases for an inside-the-park home run.

Not only did it mark the first leadoff inside-the-park home run in franchise history, but it also tied the fifth-fastest in the Statcast Era with Kansas City Royals star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. Here are the Top 5 inside-the-park home run times in the Statcast Era:

  • 1st: Byron Buxton 13.85 seconds (Aug. 18, 2017)
  • 2nd: Byron Buxton 14.05 seconds (Oct. 2, 2016)
  • 3rd: Pete Crow-Armstrong 14.08 seconds (Aug. 23, 2024)
  • 4th: Dee Strange-Gordon 14.2 seconds (June 30, 2015)
  • T-5th: Bobby Witt Jr. 14.3 seconds (Aug. 15, 2023)
  • T-5th: Corbin Carroll 14.3 seconds (Aug. 31, 2024)

Carroll’s home run came after the Dodgers scored three runs on back-to-back-to-back home runs by Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman. The Diamondbacks came back to take a 4-3 lead in the inning on Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s two-run double and Eugenio Suárez’s sacrifice fly.

Following his first at-bat, Carroll is batting .286 with 11 home runs and a 1.066 OPS in August. His contributions at the top of the order has been a big reason why the Diamondbacks continue to stack up wins. He already has a game-winning grand slam earlier in the homestand to defeat the New York Mets.
