Not even an hour after blowing a six-run ninth inning lead, the Atlanta Braves are officially calling up nine-time All-Star reliever Craig Kimbrel , per Ken Rosenthal.
In the wake of today’s ninth-inning collapse, the Braves are summoning Craig Kimbrel from Triple A, source tells @TheAthletic

As they say… better late than never.
However, the fact that this didn’t happen weeks ago is pretty embarrassing and just further proof that general manager Alex Anthopoulos and this Braves front office have lost their once-magical touch. The bullpen has been plaguing Atlanta since the beginning of the season, and Craig Kimbrel has been downright dominant on the farm. In 18 appearances between AA-AAA, he owns a 2.00 ERA, 0.944 WHIP, and is striking out 11.5 batters per nine innings. Yeah, that’ll play, especially in a bullpen that really doesn’t have a single trustworthy option at the moment.
Originally, I didn’t think there was any chance Craig Kimbrel would be called upon to close games for the Braves. However, with the struggles of Raisel Iglesias, I don’t really see where else the team could turn. Iglesias can’t keep pitching the ninth, and nobody else has experience doing so. I would guess that’s going to be Kimbrel’s job now. Which is exciting for nostalgia purposes, but also kind of terrifying.
