The Chicago Cubs have been on a disastrous stretch of play recently, with their losing streak reaching nine games on Monday with a road loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs now sit at just 29-25 on the season, freefalling down the standings after a hot start to the campaign.
In fact, the Cubs have now accomplished something that the baseball world hasn’t seen in over four decades with just how much of a roller coaster their 2026 season has been.
“The Cubs have lost 9 straight games after beginning a 10-game win streak 27 days ago. The last MLB team to have a win & loss streak of 9 or more games within a span of 27 days was the 1985 Twins,” reported OptaSTATS on X, formerly Twitter.
To say that the Cubs’ 2026 campaign has been a whirlwind would be an understatement. The Cubs established themselves as one of the hottest teams in the MLB throughout the month of April and into May, looking to build off last year’s playoff run, and looking like a legit MLB World Series threat in the process.
However, some of the facade started to break down when they lost a series against the Atlanta Braves, and things have only continued to get worse from there, as the team found itself swept by the Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, and Houston Astros over the last three series, and are looking to avoid a similar fate against the Pirates.
The losing has dropped Chicago all the way down to third in the NL Central division, and they could fall into last place if they lose to the Pirates again on Tuesday.
First pitch for that game is set for 6:40 pm ET from Pittsburgh.
