Cubs Add OF David Peralta On Minor-League Deal

As the Chicago Cubs continue to tread water with their pursuit of Cody Bellinger, they have reportedly come to terms with another former Dodger in outfielder David Peralta. It is specifically a minor-league deal, which will most likely result in a Spring Training invite.

The former Gold Glove winner has bounced around the last couple of seasons after spending the majority of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Last offseason, he had signed a one-year deal worth $6.5 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Peralta's stats from last season were nothing special. The veteran finished his lone season in Los Angeles with an OBP of .294 in 133 games. If he can make the team out of camp, it would provide the Cubs with nice outfield flexibility from their bench.

This is a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Cubs. It is no secret the team is always looking for value in any way that they can get it. Given his experience, Peralta could be of great veteran leadership to the Cubs bountiful supply of young outfield prospects currently in camp.

It will be interesting to see what other moves that the Cubs make between now and Opening Day. But being that this agreement with Peralta is only a minor-league deal, it shouldn't have any impact on a Cody Bellinger pursuit.
