The Chicago Cubs fell one game short of reaching the NLCS after falling to the Milwaukee Brewers in the divisional round of the MLB playoffs. Despite the disappointing end, the 2025 season marked a step forward for the Cubs’ organization. Chicago reached the postseason for the first time since the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
A huge reason for the team’s success was Pete Crow-Armstrong’s emergence in the outfield. The 23-year-old earned the first All-Star selection of his three-year career. Crow-Armstrong owned a .247 batting average, .287 on-base percentage, .768 OPS, 31 home runs and 35 stolen bases across 157 appearances. He struggled at the plate in the second half, but his ability to impact the game with elite defense never wavered.
As a result, Crow-Armstrong was honored for his defensive efforts during the MLB offseason. Rawlings Baseball had previously announced him as a finalist for the National League Gold Glove Award in center field. On Sunday, Crow-Armstrong emerged as the winner, earning the first Gold Glove of his career.
He received more votes than fellow finalists Victor Stott of the St. Louis Cardinals and Jacob Young of the Washington Nationals. The Cubs celebrated the young star’s achievement on X. “Pete Gold-Armstrong ,” the team wrote.

Crow-Armstrong’s Gold Glove win recognizes the best defensive player at each position in the league, an honor Rawlings has awarded annually since 1957. According to Statcast’s Baseball Savant, Crow-Armstrong recorded 21 Fielding Run Value (FRV) and 24 Outs Above Average (OAA) in center field.
FRV measures how many runs a player saves on defense by factoring in range, arm strength and positioning. OAA focuses specifically on range and shows how many outs a fielder makes compared to the average player at his position. Crow-Armstrong continues to stand out as an exciting outfielder, frequently making plays that few others reach.
With Crow-Armstrong leading the way in center field, the Cubs have a strong foundation heading into 2026. His defensive reliability and power-speed combo give Chicago a dynamic presence in the lineup and in the outfield. As the front office looks to build around its young core, Crow-Armstrong figures to be a centerpiece. If he can find more consistency at the plate, he has the tools to become one of the league’s most complete players.
