Cubs Assistant GM A Rising Star
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this offseason the Boston Red Sox poached their new head of baseball operations from the Chicago Cubs.

Craig Breslow was the Cubs’ assistant general manager and vice president of pitching before moving on to Boston.

Could Ehsan Bokhari be next?

Earlier this week The Athletic unveiled its list of 12 rising stars in baseball. The list was compiled after talking to 19 different voices in baseball, ones that know which coaches, executives and up-and-comers are most respected.

Bokhari made the list. He was the only Cubs connection on the list. And one of the baseball people The Athletic interviewed for the piece said it was easy to see why:

“I found him caring, thoughtful, and knowledgeable in his approach to his relationships with (or management of) people, and in his approach toward decision-making.”

Bokhari joined the Cubs after the 2021 season, which brought him back to his old stomping grounds, as he went the University of Illinois in Champaign to get two master’s degrees in statistics and psychology, along with a doctorate in quantitative psychology. He got his bachelor’s degree at the University of Arizona.

After a brief stint in the private sector he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015 as a senior analyst for research and development in their baseball operations department.

After three years with the Dodgers, he joined the Houston Astros in 2018 as their director of research and development. He was later promoted to senior director of player evaluation in 2019 and senior director of strategic decision making in 2021 before leaving for the Cubs.
