Even after being eliminated from the postseason, the Chicago Cubs are continuing their additions from outside the organization. It's an interesting set of circumstances as the North Siders claimed reliever Enoli Paredes off waivers from the division rival Milwaukee Brewers.
After celebrating a postseason berth with Milwaukee, Paredes will now sit home as the newest member of the Cubs. A spot on the 40-man roster opened last Friday when the Cubs designated Shawn Armstrong for assignment.
Paredes spent the 2024 season in Milwaukee after being a member of the Houston Astros organization. In 17 appearances with the Brewers, the right-hander posted a solid 1.74 ERA. It remains to be seen if he will join the Cubs in Philadelphia.

The Cubs continue to add bullpen arms from high and low. With a solid track record of success, this strategy is hard to dispute when it comes to bolstering the team's depth.
While landing a high-end closer still needs to be addressed, the Cubs have a solid nucleus heading into the 2025 season. Porter Hodge and Nate Pearson are two products of the team's knack for finding relief help.
Now that the 2024 season is pretty much over, the Cubs can put all their resources into crafting a successful offseason plan. The time for complacency is over and they must act urgently when the hot stove ramps up.
Missing the playoffs for a fourth straight season is unacceptable for a team that's risen from the ashes of a teardown. While the under-the-radar bullpen additions are nice, superstar talent is still sorely needed.
The clock is now ticking for the Cubs to have a successful offseason. If Jed Hoyer rolls out mostly the same roster as he did in 2024, the growth organization's growth will be stunted. It'll be interesting to see just how much changes by Spring Training.
