Cubs Hammer Brewers in Game One of Series

It felt more like a grown man bullying a bunch of little leaguers on the playground than it did a baseball game for the Chicago Cubs on Friday night. But after ten unanswered runs and a shutdown pitching performance, a miracle could not help the Milwaukee Brewers, and the North Siders easily took game one on the road with a 10-0 final score.

The bloodbath kicked off in the first inning with Cubs catcher Carson Kelly hitting an RBI single to score Ian Happ. Nico Hoerner followed it up with an RBI single of his own to put the score at 2-0.

In the top of the second with the bases loaded, thanks to a single from Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson and walks from Ian Happ and Nicky Lopez, Kyle Tucker hit another RBI single to make it 3-0. Seiya Suzuki followed it up with an RBI hit of his own, and with the bases still loaded, Michael Busch smashed a grand slam to put the Cubs up by eight runs.

Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong shoved the Brewers' nose back in the dirt with a solo homer of his own to make it 9-0.

Nine runs would have easily been enough support for the Cubs to spank the Brewers all night long, but Crow-Armstrong added another solo shot in the seventh inning just for giggles. With thousands of Cubs fans in attendance cheering like a home crowd, Brewers spectators were not happy with the evening's results.

You just hate to see it. Let's look at that fan's reaction again, shall we?

Thanks to a solid pitching performance from Cubs starter Ben Brown, as well as newly acquired righty Chris Flexen, the Brewers were unable to put anything on the board, and the Cubs took game one of the road series 10-0.

On the offensive side, Crow-Armstrong led the Cubs, going 2 for 5 with two home runs and 2 RBI. Tucker, Kelly, and Hoerner each had two-hit games, and everyone in the starting lineup collected at least one hit except for third baseman Lopez, who still managed to get on base with a walk.

For PCA, it was his eighth home run in his last 16 games, and he spoke to reporters post-game about the ease of hitting in this current Cubs lineup.

Brown took the win on the mound for the Cubs, throwing six innings with four strikeouts, no walks, and just four hits. Flexen earned the save, throwing the final three innings with four strikeouts, two walks, and one hit.

The Cubs continue their road series tonight against the Brewers. Righthander Jameson Taillon will take the ball for the Cubs and face off against former Cub Jose Quintana, who’s posting a 4-0 record on the season with a 1.14 ERA. Game time is set for 6:10 PM CDT.
