Cubs impressive streak at home highlights recent dominance

The Chicago Cubs have been one of baseball’s hottest teams since the middle of April. From April 14-24, they rattled off a 10-game winning streak that included two series sweeps of the Philadelphia Phillies and another against the New York Mets. Although they briefly stumbled with a three-game skid on the West Coast following that stretch, Chicago quickly answered with another three-game winning streak.

Altogether, the Cubs are beginning to look like a dominant force, particularly at Wrigley Field where they continue to feed off the energy of their home crowd. That trend continued Friday night when Chicago escaped with a 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, extending its winning streak at Wrigley Field to nine straight games.

Dating back to Sunday, April 12, when the Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field, Chicago has yet to lose on its home field. Three of the wins during this stretch have come by a single run, but perhaps even more impressively, the Cubs have been held under four runs just once during the streak despite battling through the cold spring conditions that have hovered over Chicago for much of the season.

Overall, this dominant stretch at Wrigley Field has given the Cubs their longest home winning streak since 2017. During that season, Chicago pieced together nine straight victories at home, highlighted by sweeps of the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates before the streak ended in the finale of a four-game series against the Atlanta Braves. The Cubs ultimately finished 48-33 at home that year, and their 92-win campaign was enough to secure the National League Central division crown.

If the Cubs can continue turning Wrigley Field into a true home-field advantage, they are going to remain one of the most dangerous teams in the National League, which is easily the most competitive division in baseball this year. While it is still early in the season, this recent run is beginning to resemble the type of momentum carried by some of Chicago’s most successful teams of the last decade.
