Kyle Tucker of the Chicago Cubs has to understand that in the next few months, he could be looking at a $600 million deal. Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently noted that it'd be surprising to see him get less than $500 million.
Depending on how things go for him with the Cubs over the next few months, there's a chance that he could be in Chicago.
Some believe the Cubs are the favorites to keep him, while others think there will be question marks about what the front office will do because of their unwillingness to spend in other years.
However, after trading the package they did for Tucker, and understanding what the market would likely look at before they acquired him, it'd be questionable not to give him the money he's looking for.
Tucker likely understands that there are some questions surrounding his free agency and his future in Chicago, but ultimately, he has the final say in where he ends up.
When speaking to The Athletic about it, he added that he isn't letting anything dictate what he does on the field, and for now, all he’s worried about is going out there and trying to win games in Chicago.
“I’m not going to let any contract or money stuff kind of dictate what I do out on the field,” Tucker said. “I’m going to go play, and steal bases, and hit and field and everything else, regardless of that. I’m just doing what I can out there. And the rest will take care of itself.”
Not only has Tucker proven to be a big-time addition for the Cubs, but he's continued to be one of the better players in Major League Baseball.
For that and many reasons, the Cubs need to do whatever it takes to keep him around.
