Cubs Make Anthony Rizzo Announcement After 10 Years

The Chicago Cubs announced plans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise's historic 2016 World Series championship, with franchise legend Anthony Rizzo returning to Wrigley Field for the festivities.

The celebration will take place during the Cubs' reunion weekend and features the unveiling of "Champions Gate," a permanent monument honoring the organization's World Series championship teams from 1907, 1908 and 2016.

Rizzo, who helped end the Cubs' 108-year championship drought by recording the final out of Game 7 in Cleveland, will reunite with former manager Joe Maddon and teammate David Ross as part of the weekend's events. Fans will also have the opportunity to see the final-out baseballs from the 1908 and 2016 World Series championships.

The event comes nearly a decade after one of the most iconic moments in franchise history and gives Cubs fans another chance to celebrate the team that transformed the organization forever.

Rizzo spent 10 seasons with the Cubs from 2012 through 2021, earning three All-Star selections, four Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger Award while becoming one of the faces of the franchise. He later finished his career with the New York Yankees before retiring as a Cub in 2025.

The reunion arrives as the current Cubs continue their push through the 2026 season under manager Craig Counsell, with the organization using the milestone weekend to connect its championship past with the club's present.

Beyond honoring one of the greatest teams in franchise history, the celebration gives a new generation of fans the opportunity to relive the moments that finally ended one of baseball's longest championship droughts.
